Exploring Chevy’s BEV Lineup

Before exploring Chevy’s electric lineup, let’s look at the brand’s goals for the future. Not surprisingly, the bowtie brand plans to continue expanding the electric models it offers. In fact, by 2030, it plans to electrify 50% of its fleet and then transition to a 100% electric passenger and light-duty vehicle fleet by 2035. If you’re looking at a calendar, you’ll notice those years are getting closer and closer as each week goes by. So, where does it stand now?

Currently, there are three options for EVs in its lineup: the Equinox, the Blazer, and the Silverado. All three of these are household names that drivers have been relying on to get them from point A to point B for years. They’re also some of the most popular models in the Chevy lineup and boast modern styling, much of the latest safety and connectivity advancements, and more. With those things in mind, let’s take a closer look at each to see how they fit your daily driving needs…

Chevy Equinox EV

The gas-powered Chevy Equinox has been a part of the lineup since 2004. Its EV sibling debuted 20 years later, in 2024. One of the main selling points for the Equinox EV is that it is the most affordable over-315-mile-range EV in its class. The Equinox EV offers firm handling, a smooth ride, and ample room for passengers and cargo. Regarding the battery pack, there are two options: You can choose either a single electric motor that creates 220 hp or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that boosts output to 300 hp. Both use an 85-kWh battery pack. It’s worth mentioning that the single electric motor option offers a longer range.

Speaking of power output, you might wonder if BEVs are strong enough to tow—and the answer is yes. When appropriately equipped, the Equinox EV can tow up to 1,500 lbs (the same as a gas-powered Equinox), which is enough to haul a small boat or travel camper. Other highlights of the Equinox EV include a 17.7-inch center touchscreen, which is the largest in its class, and over 15 standard safety features, including systems that keep you centered in your lane and alert you to changes in traffic so you can adjust accordingly. Additionally, you can access built-in apps that provide you with turn-by-turn directions and your favorite music through the infotainment system, as well as utilize the onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.

Chevy Blazer EV

While the Blazer had been on hiatus for a few years, it has remained a top seller for the brand since its return. The modern Blazer has a more streamlined appearance than its predecessor, giving you a sense of gliding through the air as you drive along. Like the Equinox EV, it offers a single-motor setup and a dual-motor one that produces 220 hp and 300 hp, respectively, with an 85-kWh battery pack, but that’s not all; you can also choose a 102-kWh battery and either one or two motors to get even more power. You can expect 365 hp from the single and 615 hp from the dual, which is only available for the top-tier SS trim.

The Blazer EV is just as tech-forward as the Equinox EV, offering the same standard 17.7-inch touchscreen display and 11-inch driver information screen that provides you with valuable information, such as vehicle diagnostics. There’s also an available AutoSense Power Liftgate that makes unloading and loading your cargo easier. If you’re wondering how far the Blazer EV will take you on a single charge, its best EPA-estimated range is 334 miles. This is thanks in part to Regen on Demand, which allows you to manually slow down the SUV to convert some of the energy from its movement directly to the battery, and One Pedal Driving, allowing you to both speed up and slow down using only the accelerator pedal.

Chevy Silverado EV

Last but not least is the Silverado EV. The Silverado 1500 is one of the longest-running vehicles in the Chevy lineup, providing a blend of rugged durability, functionality, and comfort in one stylish truck that consistently turns heads. When looking at all three of Chevy’s EV options, you will notice that they each have their own style, differing from their gas-powered siblings, but it’s the Silverado EV that looks the most different, with rounded edges and a roofline that angles down to the bed’s sides.

Exterior appearances aside, however, there is no denying that the electric version of the Silverado 1500 has the power to do whatever you want, whenever you need. In fact, it offers up to 12,500 lbs of towing capability and up to 785 lb-ft of torque in the Wide Open Watts mode. Even better is that its best estimated drive range is 460 miles. On the inside, you will see the same 17.7-inch touchscreen and 11-inch driver information center, as well as the same connectivity abilities. Depending on the trim you choose, you can see amenities such as uplevel exterior LED lighting, a Multi-Flex midgate, the Super Cruise hands-free driving tool, and much more.

Additionally, the Silverado EV has plenty of room for you and your passengers. Perhaps one of the coolest features is the available Sidewinder mode: This crab-walking mode allows you to turn all four wheels in the same direction, which moves the truck diagonally; it can only be used at low speeds, but it is a game changer when you need to get out of narrow spots, either in the parking lot or out on the trails.
